A few things before we begin. Metaphysical property information posted on this site comes from a variety of sources, including but not limited to Gemstone Healing Guide, A Healing Apothecary by Kristi Huggins, Melody's Love Is In The Earth, A Kaleidoscope of Crystals, Pictoral Supplements A and Z, The Illustrated Guide to Crystals by Judy Hall, The Crystalline Communion by Colleen Marquist and Jack Frasl, The National Audubon Society Field Guide, various handouts, and information supplied by intuition and the crystals themselves.

Second, just a small reminder. Sometimes, physical properties listed in books are very similar to the astrology readings you get in your local newspaper. They are very general to encompass a wide range of issues and people. Remember, each person has their own unique energy frequency. What may work for one may not work for another in the same way. That is why it is vitally important to be aware of your own energy signature/frequency before working with stones in order to get the best results.

And lastly, I will not list anything in this section that is questionable. If it is not recognized in some way, shape or form geologically, it will not be posted here. Man made and/or lab enhanced materials are marked with an asterisk. If you see something I missed, please feel free to contact me.

Abalone: is a feminine, Shamanic healing shell and a natural shape-shifting tool. It improves protein assimilation and strengthens the heart and other muscle tissue. The various colors of rainbow sheen enliven and impact many body areas when worn or carried. The Abalone shell "bowl" is used during smudge ceremonies, a Native American cleansing ritual performed before sacred activity and to cleanse the self and areas on a regular basis.

Actinolite: Actinolite is an immensely important tool! It is a phenomenal shielding device and expands the energy bodies. This expansion provides for a connection to "All That Is" and facilitates the "brotherhood" of all. Provides a familiarity with all of those who one encounters, withholding all aspects of that which cause the familiar smile, action or being, to appear objectionable. By focusing this mineral on an unwanted condition, lessening is both facilitated and enhanced.

Agate: Agates provide for balancing of the yin-yang energies and for balancing the physical, emotional and intellectual bodies with the etheric energies. It stabilizes the aura, providing for a cleansing effect which acts to smooth dysfunctional energies and to both transform and eliminate negativity. It can further assist one in the development of precision in examination of oneself and of circumstances relevant to ones well-being.

Agatized Coral occurs when silica in the ocean water hardens, replacing the limy corals with a form of quartz mineral known as chalcedony. This long fossilization process (20-30 million years) results in the formation of a "pseudomorph," meaning that one mineral has replaced another without having lost its original form. This type of Coral can be used to support trauma therapy and assists in working through emotional issues from dysfunctional families or relationships.

Holly Blue Agate is known as one of the stones of spirituality and psychic actualization. It can be used to facilitate communication in this world as well as between this world and the spiritual world. Works to eliminate mental and emotional conditions that may produce distortion in judgment. Helps one to refine ones communication skills and provides encouragement to verbalize feelings. Activates and stimulates the throat and crown chakras. Enhances mental acuity and clarity. Helps one to realize that all that one teaches, one also learns.

Ajoite is a master integrator, specifically addressing issues of discord. Also known as the "Phoenix Rising" stone, it assists in the spiritual evolution of humanity, not only as an individual, but as a whole as well. It is a powerful mineral of transformation and healing in all areas. Melds the heart and throat chakras so that one may truly speak from the heart. Provides peace, joy and acceptance. Eliminates negative attributes (anger, hate, etc.)

Alexandrite: "Alexandrite is a rare gemstone regarded as having regenerative power. It enhances the rebirth of both the inner and the outer self, providing impetus to expedite the changing ones world while producing the qualities of expansiveness, creativity, and awareness in the realm of manifestation. The energy of the crystalline form is especially conducive to the art of manifestation. This mineral can assist one in centering the self, reinforcing self-esteem and augmenting ones ability to experience joy and to both acknowledge and appreciate the interconnectedness of all of nature."

Amazonite: Inspires truth, sincerity, honor, self-love, communication, eloquence, integrity, trust, clairvoyance, clarity, prophecy and openness. Held to the third eye, Amazonite unlocks psychic vision. Filters information passing through the brain and combines with intuition. Heals heart and throat chakra, enhancing loving communications. Aligns physical and etheric bodies, maintains good health. Balances male-female energy. Dissipates energy blocks in nervous system, relieves muscle spasm. Shields from microwave. Amber: Amber is a stone dedicated to the connection of the conscious self to universal perfection. Assists in the art of manifestation, stimulates the intellect and opens the crown chakra. It also transmutes the energy of physical vitality toward the activation of unconditional love. It aligns the ethereal energies to the physical, mental, and emotional bodies, providing for an even flow of perfect order to the requirements of the Earth plane while balancing the electromagnetic of the physical body. Amber also cleanses the environment in the area it is placed in. It acts to purify ones body, mind and spirit when worn or carried.

Amblygonite: This soothing and healing mineral works very well with mild anxiety and stress. For people who are very active and/or nervous, Amblygonite provides the necessary elements to calm nerves and over sensitivity. It is a very useful stone to keep in an office type setting when intense mental activity is present (Law Offices, Research, Laboratory, etc.) as well as places that are full of stress and deadlines.

Amegreen (A combination of Greened Amethyst (Prasiolite) and Purple Amethyst):

Prasiolite (Greened Amethyst): Promotes recognition of ones accomplishments, brings appreciation, approval and acclaim to the user. It has been called the "celestial root", bringing the ancient knowledge of illumination, germination and growth. It is excellent for assisting one in expressing emotions and in facilitating accuracy and power of observation. It furthers the independence of human minds and advances the prophetic capabilities of all who experience the energies and the exchange of the energies. Stimulates healing on the spiritual level and assists one in regaining the connection with perfection of the self and the physical body. It has assisted in cleansing the body and in ameliorating all conditions of disorderly growth.

Amethyst: Amethyst is associated with increased nobility, spiritual awareness, meditation, balance, psychic abilities, inner peace, healing, and positive transformation. This stone brings an understanding of death and rebirth and relieves stress. Amethyst is a teacher of all things spiritual, mystic and psychic. This stone is very healing of body, mind and soul.

Amethyst, Chevron: Assists with inner self-evaluation and evolution. It allows one to gain knowledge in spiritual healing. Placing a piece of chevron amethyst on a chakra serves to release the tensions held there and to energize the areas, which may be static. For those who feel a lot of negativity around them or an area, this piece is a wonderful expeller of such energies.

Ametrine: The blending of Citrine and Amethyst disperses negativity from the aura and fills the voids with energizing and stabilizing qualities of pure energy and light. Facilitates the removal of blockages in all bodies. Ametrine works quickly in all areas, the Amethyst raising the clearing quality of Citrine to a higher level of vibration while expanding at the same time. Ametrine never needs cleansing.

Ammonite: Ammonites assist in providing insight to the basis from which to start and allows one to retain the whole picture from conception to use. A protective stone, it gives stability and structure to ones life. It can eliminate the caustic attributes and transform negativity into a smooth, flowing energy. Encourages and supplements ones survival techniques. It has been used in the treatment of disorders of lungs and limbs and can be quite helpful in the rectification of degenerative disorders.

Andalusite: Allows one to view the different facets of ones character (emotional, physical and intellectual) while remaining grounded and unbiased about the results. Encourages rationality when looking at an issue. It is a stimulant to memory and recollection, promoting expertise in allegorical interpretation and providing for clarity of material received from ancient texts. Helps in recovery when one feels thrown out of balance. Since this is a type of Fairy Cross Stone (Staurolite) it is also a talisman of good luck. Can facilitate the actions of ritual and ceremony. It also can eliminate depression and addictive personality traits and provide overpowering relief in stress.

Angelite: Regenerates and rejuvenates ill areas of the body. Enhances creativity, communication and self-expression. An excellent stone for spiritual guidance!! Enhances one's perception of and connection to their own inner Guidance and celestial influences. Helps convert fear/anxiety/urgency into faith and tranquility, knowing that "all is well." Cools and slows down over active Kundalini. Helps one to be grounded and present in the here and now. Assists one in connecting their head with the heart bringing more wisdom to overemotional conditions and more love/compassion to overly mental/analytical conditions.

Anhydrite: Facilitates strength on the physical plane and allows one the understanding that the physical body is transient. Acts to guide one toward acceptance of that which may come tomorrow. Helps to develop stamina and to provide for loving communication with those of a different mind. Provides energy for glad acceptance of all the changes and situations which one has the opportunity to experience. Allows one to recognize that the past is gone except for the beauty, and nothing remains but the grace through which one can accept the benefit of each episode.**Also sometimes identified as Angelwing Anhydrite.**

Apache Tear (Obsidian): This is an excellent grounding stone and provides for a connection from the base of the spine to the heart of the Earth. It is also a wonderful protection stone providing a shield against negativity and transforming negative vibrations within the environment. Carrying or wearing Obsidian assists in dispersing those unloving thoughts which arise from within the self or are directed toward ones physical form. It is very useful in healing, providing both the healer and the subject with clarity in respect to both the cause and the amelioration of the dis-ease.

Apatite: Eliminates blockages, can assist in balance, stimulates psychic development. Blue Apatite fosters peace and harmony through communication and communion with our higher self. Wearing or carrying Apatite has successfully produced hunger suppression and can be used at the physical level to focus healing energy on the systems, glands, meridians and organs of the body.

Golden Apatite Crystals are excellent for counteracting arthritis and is even more effective when used in combination with a green colored mineral, such as Dioptase. A good crystal to use when doing any type of past life recall work. May specifically be used for any type of bone related issues or illness.

Lilac Apatite (Afghanistan) helps aid to recall and empower ones natural psychic abilities and spiritual attunement. It aids in communication and self-expression on all levels. It is a stone of manifestation. This Apatite will encourage and deepen meditation. It has come to us at a time of major shifting and growing. It will gently assist in the dropping away of emotional and physical baggage that no longer serves us, allowing us to raise our vibration even higher. This Apatite is to be used in both individual and group healing sessions. This is a powerful and extremely potent little crystal!

The Pink Apatite is a crystal of blessings. Its pink color denotes love, not only on a physical level, but transcends to a universal and beyond level. It IS love-the energy, which we each possess on a higher soul/mother/father/god level. It is a crystal of compassion, forgiveness and selflessness. A powerful healer, this crystal allows one to face the most difficult of emotions and work through them on every level, allowing love to embrace and comfort in the process.

Teal (Blue/Green) Apatite Crystals can enhance the "coming to results" so works very well with other crystals. Eliminates blockages, can assist in balance, stimulates psychic development. This light teal color opens the throat chakra and reduces tension and stuttering. Improves ones verbal expressions. Teal (Blue/Green) Apatite Crystals help to recognize that universal guiding hand of ones purpose and meaning of the life path each has chosen to walk. Helps to release stress, difficulties and the feeling of non-achievement. The energy of Blue/Green Apatite provides assistance in directing one to the path and accompanies one on the path. Apophyllite: Apophyllite has been used to create a conscious connection between the physical form and the spiritual realm. It allows one to both recognize and act upon the truth in all situations. It has been used to facilitate astral travel and to provide a clear and definitive connection to the physical body during the travel. This is one of the stones which helps one to remain totally conscious while experiencing the activities of astral travel (access to Akashic records, exchange of communication with those of the spirit world, and past life experiences). Apophyllite can be used to enhance and stimulate ones intuitive vision.

Green Apophyllite can be used to activate the heart chakra and to provide energy and forthrightness in decisions of the heart. Allows one to absorb the energies one needs from the universal supply of perfect energy. Stimulates a joyful glee.

Aqua Aura*: What makes an "Aqua Aura" quartz is the process by which the crystal is artificially bonded with gold, which produces a more intense color. A wonderful stone for meditation, it invokes high states of consciousness and spiritual awareness. Encourages service to humanity.

Aragonite: Enhances sensitivity, generosity and the ability to give as well as receive. Very calming and centering crystal, which can enhance and assist in meditation, as it supports a deep and serene state. Enhances patience.

Blue Aragonite (Laurium from Greece) applies directly to the lymph nodes of the throat chakra aiding the immune system. It is a stone of empowerment through listening rather than speaking, so it enhances receptivity to others and understanding of their needs. Infuses the survival center of the brain with universal life force energy. This can lead to euphoric states of awe, wonder and joy which will in effect sedate pain and depression.

Astrophyllite: Allows for the recognition that there are no limitations and that, "we are, in fact, all stars." Helps to bring to life, hidden forces and to show that as one door closes, another opens. It also assists in absolving one from responsibility and in purging from ones life that which should be eliminated such that one can continue to develop and progress.

Aventurine, Green: Stone of good luck, abundance, adventures in travel, healing heart and emotions. Enhances creativity, independence, prosperity, career success, calmness and balance. Helps us to see alternatives and potentials. This stone is especially healing of mind and body.

Aventurine, Red: Enhances ones creativity, brings prosperity, diffuses negativity and balances the male-female energies. Helps one to see alternatives and possibilities. Benefits the thymus gland and nervous system. Balances blood pressure and as an elixir can aid in skin problems. The red is a reproductive healer, sometimes assisting in reversal of diseased states.

Aventurine,Pink In general, Aventurine brings prosperity, diffuses negativity and balances the male/female or yin/yang energies. The pink Aventurine however, seems to go above the physical, five sensory level. It rises past the eighth chakra of universal love allowing one to embrace not only the physical vehicle in which we reside, but also allowing absolute love of our higher self/soul/divine being. To me, it is like a favorite warm, fuzzy blanket, embracing and enfolding one in joy and love.

Aventurine, White This awesome white aventurine with the mica sparkles comes to us from Canada. The properties of both aventurine and mica would apply for this stone. Mica "…Provides reflective qualities so that one can recognize the flaws of humanity and can remain in a heart space to continue to love this same humanity. Used to facilitate clarity in visions. Provides for self reflection, and allows one to recognize that 'in each person you see but the reflection of that which you choose to have that person be.' This Aventurine is exactly that! A mirror to the soul!!

Axinite: This crystal allows one to submit gracefully to changes, it acts to stimulate insight into the "that" which could be replaced and the "what" which could successfully provide a more positive replacement. It provides grounding in all endeavors. It is also a polarizing stone, aligning the energies of the physical with the energies of the Earth. Axinite inspires friendship and exhibits and energy conducive to stabilizing relationships. Axinite is said to transmit healing energy to the hands, and possesses properties of Shamanic energies.

Azurite: "…it is known as the 'stone of heaven' and stimulates the pursuit of the heavenly self, providing for guidance via the third eye and allowing precise verbalization of psychic experiences. It awakens the development of the psychic self and provides for insight into all areas of ones life. Azurite enhances creative abilities and helps to eliminate indecision and worries which are quietly agitating in the back of ones mind. Simply hold the Azurite and ask to have the troublesome thoughts evaporate.

It is the 'great benefactor', controlling the flow of energy and emitting precisely the amount of energy required in any situation. The crystal form has been used to facilitate contact with ones spiritual guide and to allow one to both feel the presence and to understand the message. Beta Quartz: Beta Quartz has been used in assisting clear channels of communication from both the higher self and the inner self, allowing the information to flow freely. May be used to assist in the decoding of dreams or visions. Re-tunes the DNA and has been used in the treatment of tumors, at the beginning stages of growth.

Bismuth*: "Bismuth is an element which is a semi-metal. It is a member of the arsenic group along with the elements antimony and arsenic. It is a silver colored heavy metal in nature which cannot express its crystalline structure without recrystallization help from humans. Bismuth does not crystallize naturally, because it is usually too crowded by host rock to form as a crystal. When expressing itself in recrystallized rainbow iridescence, it is excellent for focus, visualization and Shamanic journeying. It aids in shapeshifting. It lifts awareness to the stars just like an elevator with a palpable sensation of journey while providing a solid sense of grounding." Bismuth is a stone of transformation, directing the change to orderliness and calming this state. Stimulates cohesiveness in group situations and relationships.

Bixbyite: Grounds and energizes like most metals, and offers a protection by way of its reflective quality. Enhances intuition, sensitivity, imagination, adaptability and spirituality, providing for teaching via insight. Dispels headaches and painful conditions of the body. Please be aware that this IS NOT the same as Bixbite.

Beryl in general teaches how to do only that which you need to do. It is an excellent stone for dealing with stressful situations and shedding unnecessary baggage. It aids in tuning into guidance as to what you should be doing. Represents purity of being. Beryl helps to actualize potential.**Aquamarine, Emerald, Heliodor (golden) and Morganite are all types of Beryl. There are also many common variations with colors including black, gray, white and pale blue to name a few. The common varieties are normally more opaque.**

Bloodstone: This stone is a wonderful piece for removing all kinds of toxins from the body, be it emotional, physical, etc. Brings rain, abundance, alignment, organization, smooth energy flow, generosity, idealism, good fortune and purification. It is good to keep a bloodstone in any place that needs its energy cleansed. It is an energy cleanser, purifying the blood and detoxifying the liver, kidneys and spleen. Benefits all blood rich organs and regulates blood flow. Cleanses lower chakras, realigning energies. A stone of courage. Aids one in recognizing that chaos precedes transformation. (Quartz. A dark green Chalcedony)

Blue Lace Agate: The energy of this mineral is most useful at the heart, throat, third eye and crown chakra areas. Activating these chakras, it assists one to enter into high-frequency states of awareness. It is especially suited to those gentle people with shades of pale blue in their auras. It can be used in the treatment of arthritic conditions and to strengthen skeletal structures. It is associated with hope, unity, cleansing, harmony, protection, optimism and positive thinking. It allows for a smooth energy flow, an appreciation of nature, purification and makes one more easygoing.

Botswana Agate: Stimulates the exploration of the unknown. Furthers ones quest toward the enlightened state. Enhances creativity. Assists in releasing repressed emotions so that one may let go and heal. Allows one to look to the solution to a problem, rather than dwelling on it. Stimulates the crown chakra, energizes the auric body and encourages eternal and constant love.

Brecciated Jasper: "Bracciated" means that the material, as it grew, was broken geologically and then healed with quartz in the broken veins. Red Jasper is associated with relaxation, contentment, nurturing, completion, wholeness, healing, and gentle endings. Good for those who need more organizational abilities. Can facilitate dreams and the remembrance of them, can prevent "set backs" in disorders. Assists one in learning to progress, and to eliminate the aspects of digression. Can assist with bronchial problems and lower chakras, particularly that of fertility.

Bronzite: A stone of courtesy. Promotes loving equability and unprejudiced discernment. Helps one in all facets relative to service, bringing the value of assistance to the forefront. It provides one the courage to "do" during the action of "being". Highly tuned to musical personalities or atmospheres promoting benefits of musical interactions. Bronzite has been used to assist one in achieving the state of certainty without willfulness, such that one may continue to be adaptable with respect to the methodology of attainment.

Brookite allows one to "go with the flow" of the moment. Assists one in withstanding what they perceive may be an intolerable situation. Attracts and retains energy, energizing the chakras, energy fields and/or environment. Allows one to find their hidden energy and to supplement the energy forces of other crystals and minerals.

Buddstone is a mottled green South African Jade, related to Verdite. Buddstone aids all forms of energy movement in the body--whether it is Kundalini, psychic or nutritional. One of my favorite heart and healing stones! General empowerment stone. Especially soothing to those with Alzheimer's or senility.

Bustamite can be used in the removal of energy blockages and in realigning the energy channels. It can be used to activate and clear the heart chakra. Bustamite provides a calming influence during stressful situations/activities. Used in meditation, it provides a safe and sacred place where the soul is honored and the inner being can feel the perfection of health, harmony and the congruity of the universe. Conducive to dream state, stimulating the state of awareness. Provides access to angelic beings in the purity of light.

Cacoxenite: One of the most beautiful formations of this brown tufted mineral occurs within amethyst. When in amethyst, it is said to instill the concept of new things and new ideas to be brought forth. Provides a new mode of creativity and thought. This is a stone of ascension and is being used by many during the planetary alignments, world meditation and full and new moons. It can assist to increase spiritual awareness during these times and transfer healing energy to the Earth. Used in holistic treatments, it allows one to recognize all of the relationships between each integral part of the body, mind and emotion. Promotes healing and cellular renewal.Calcite: Calcite in general is an energy amplifier. It facilitates psychic abilities, channeling, astral projection and higher consciousness. Connects the intellect and emotions. Alleviates emotional stress, brings peace and serenity.

Calcite, Blue is, "..a gentle stone for recuperation and relaxation. It lowers blood pressure and dissolves pain on all levels. Gently soothing the nerves and lifting anxieties, it releases negative emotions. Used on the throat chakra, it aids in clear communication, especially when there is dissent. Calcite, Golden: Energy amplifier. It is said to help the mind and body remember-the mind, to remember information brought to bear during astral travel and channeling experiences; the body, to remember the state of perfection during dis-ease in order to return to the natural state of flawlessness. Golden calcite is an excellent energy source for use at the crown chakra, is said to deepen intellect, memory, wisdom, psychic abilities, channeling and higher consciousness.

Calcite, Green: Green Calcite has been used to rid the body of infections and to provide a barrier to diminish the effects of dis-ease producing microorganisms. Placing a piece of green calcite on the heart chakra will clear and activate that chakra, also providing a sweeping action to clear the remaining centers as well.

Calcite, Orange ".. supports the life force and is a powerful ally for any person or practitioner who mentors, assists, aids or empowers another." Connects the seen and unseen elements of spirit and matter. This calcite is creative, willful and expressive, providing empowerment to those who can benefit from it. It is an environmental stone, used in birthing facilities, artistic studios and offices as well as a powerful reminder of the right use of will, for those who represent others. Also called "The Midwife Stone".

Calcite, Pink: The embodiment of etiquette and graceful manners, Pink Calcite is also seen as the diplomat who makes way for peace, prosperity and good relations. Embodies love as a divine force and transmits the courage to move through despair, to motivation, and finally to embrace hope. Assists one to dedicate of themselves to be part of the solution.

Calcite, Red: Red calcite will increase energy, uplift ones emotions, and aid in willpower. Opens the heart chakra. Calcite in general is an energy amplifier. Facilitates psychic abilities, channeling and astral projection. Connects intellect and emotions. Alleviates emotional stress, brings peace and serenity. Cleanses organs and bones, strengthens skeleton and joints.

Calcite, White: Improves memory, supports healing and augments the ability to astral travel when the awareness of how to do this with protection has been attained. Thought energy is amplified to specific body areas, so it is an excellent mineral to support healing through visualization and biofeedback. Enhances the body/mind connection.

Iceland Spar Calcite: Optical Calcite, also known as Iceland Spar has the additional property of double refraction. This stone can also be used to remind one of the double meaning of words and to, hence, assist one in communication during difficult conversations. It is an excellent mineral for use when cleansing and clearing the outer bodies.

Carnelian: Carnelian is linked with emotional warmth, sociability, creativity, individuality, memory, appreciation of nature, harmony, courage, happiness, self-esteem, rebirth, reincarnation and past life recall. This stone calms our fears about death and rebirth, bringing serenity and acceptance of the great cycle of life. (Quartz. A form of Chalcedony)
