Configurations
are NOT Crystals,
But Crystals DO have specific Configurations
I love
crystals! I love their shapes, their unique etchings created over time
by the elements, their colors which are due to various minerals visiting
during their growth. I love to look closely (usually with a magnifying
glass) into the crystal to see its tiny nuances, a raised record keeper,
a manifestor crystal, a penetrator crystal- all will illicit a gasp from
me every time.
And yes, I talk to crystals. I feel the energy that is part of the crystal.
I love crystals!
What I do not love, is the confusion, incorrect information and sometimes
even deception.
A friend brought something to my attention the other day which is a perfect
example. A shop was selling polished towers in both clear quartz and smoky
quartz and labeling them Elestials. There is one small flaw with this
label. Once they polished these pieces, they polished the Elestial configuration
right out of them, effectively making them, well, just another polished
quartz point/tower.
You see, Elestial, is a configuration, not a species. It is the pattern
that makes the crystal specific to the Elestial name. Once you polish
out that pattern? It is no longer an Elestial, it is polished quartz.
Let's start at the beginning.
A quartz with a surface that may show flat to nearly flat point tips,
with triangular cut like spaces is called Jacaré Quartz. Another
description which may be easier to visualize would be, "multiple
terminations, all facing in the same direction and appearing to have melted
into each other".
The word
Jacaré is Portuguese, meaning "Alligator", so you will
often see Alligator Quartz used as an alternative nick name. Why Alligator?
Because the pattern is similar to the one you will see on the reptilian
skin of the alligator. I have even seen it called Crocodile Quartz. Obviously,
a Crocodile and an Alligator are two different beasts, so to add "Crocodile"
to the mix is just making an already confusing name even MORE confusing.
Around the time of the New Millennium, metaphysical information was "received"
and Jacaré Quartz was additionally named, "Elestial"
Quartz. The story goes that it was believed to carry a "Celestial"
energy, "a gift from the heavens" or "a gift from the angels".
Drop the C and you have "Elestial" Quartz. Badda Bing! Badda
Bam! It was one of those names that gained momentum. From my conversations
with vendors and rock folk that have been doing this much longer than
I, I have received confirmation that the name, Elestial, "just stuck"
and became more popular than the true name Jacaré Quartz.
So here is Jacaré Quartz evolution
Jacaré Quartz-A Portuguese word translated as Alligator
Alligator Quartz- see above
Also reported to be called an Elestial Quartz- Same Jacaré
Quartz, just put new name on it for the New Millennium
Also reported to be called a Window Quartz- Yes, while Jacaré
Quartz may exhibit "windows" due to the triangular inset crystal
faces- This is far too general as many, many, MANY types of crystals can
have a window configuration.
Also reported to be called Fenster Quartz- German Word for window
but makes no sense because this is another nick name for Skeletal Quartz
which is basically the inverse of the Jacaré Quartz. The etchings
are from the inside out.
Also reported to be called Water Quartz- This makes no sense either
since "Enhydro" is the correct name for any crystal which contains
a fluid, carbon or gas pocket within the crystal. The fluid can be very
old and more than likely very pure. If I was to identify a Jacaré
Quartz as JUST a Water Quartz, you would not have any idea, would you?
So, bottom line is this. If you DO NOT see the flat to nearly flat triangular
faces? then it is NOT Elestial Quartz (Jacaré Quartz).
